IDR810 Event Organization (Spring 2025)

About the course

The course aims at introducing the students to issues related to the management of events. 

• Different types and key aspects of events
• Bidding for events
• Planning the event
• The organizing committees and organizational structure
• Event stakeholders and stakeholder relationships
• Leading the work force
• Criteria for success and failure factors
• Risk management and test events
• Event evaluation
• Sport events and sustainability
• Event legacy

For spring 2023 two excursions, one mandatory and one optional, are organised. The mandatory excursion is will be to Oslo. Molde University College covers all costs related to travel and housing. Students must pay own food and personal costs. The optional trip is to Kvitfjell where the students will volunteer at a downhill skiing event. Students must pay own travels to Kvitfjell, but the event organizers are covering costs related to food and accommodation.

For spring 2024 one mandatory trip to Oslo will be organized. A second excursion will be confirmed in due course before spring 2023.

Knowledge:

Completing this course the students should be able to:

• Demonstrate knowledge of basic concepts, principles, and theories of sport events

• Understand the specific management characteristics of sport events

• Participate in the planning and implementation of a sport event. 

 

Forms of teaching and learning

• The course is organised in four-five blocks (one during th excursion to Oslo, the rest in Molde).

• Instruction consists of classroom teaching, tasks-in-class (e.g. presentations), reading and assignments to be submitted to the teacher, and working in groups in and between seminars.

• Practical cases will be included and integrated with the theories.
