A specialised teacher called Ruzna

She is the only specialised teacher in Mlowa Bwawani Primary School, in Chamwino. Is she able to use some of the knowledge and experiences from the exchange in Molde in her work?

Ruzna and one of her pupils

After a three-hour drive from the capitol of Tanzania, Dodoma, through a beautiful and rural landscape, we met the previous NOREC participant and the specialized teacher, Ruzna Maumba. It was wonderful to meet this sparkling young woman again!

Once again, we witnessed that a previous exchange participant had not at all lost the spirit and enthusiasm about improving the life quality of children with disabilities. Ruzna loves children and, perhaps, especially children with intellectual disabilities. She uses her influence and power exactly for that purpose at Mlowa Bwawani Primary School - and the staff has joined her!

Collaboration with parents and sometimes grandparents is also important in Ruzna's work. Here is a grandmother and her grand daughter.

Ruzna and a pupil in a classroom

Despite challenges with such as scarcity of recourses and that there is no kind of transport available for children living far from school, she has achieved a lot for the children and for their parents. One of her important achievements is to put a stop to corporal punishment at school. We wonder about how it is possible for a single specialized teacher to keep focused on the aim about improved life quality for children with disabilities, spending work hours, leisure time and private money, even two years after participation in the project. We do not have the answer, but, again, we see that it is true!

A tree like this may also serve as a classroom
