Brown Bag Seminar: "POLICY NARRATIVES: CONTENTIOUS MEASURES IN SMALL CAR-DEPENDENT CITIES"

The Faculty of Business Administration and Social Sciences cordially invites you to the Brown Bag weekly seminar on Wednesday, 22/11 at 12:15-13:15 in room A.1-025 (please pay attention to a change in the room, also, please note that this is on-site only, so no Zoom). Bring your own lunch. Coffee and tea will be served.

Abstract:

Drawing from a study in which a large set of media coverage from local Norwegian newspaper articles on contentious measures have been analysed, the seminar will discuss policy narratives as a theoretical perspective and as a qualitative text analysing method. Understanding the role of policy narratives is becoming increasingly important in urban studies. Narratives are used to influence public opinion toward support for a particular policy preference. Media can reflect or represent the various policy beliefs in the policy system. Media is in this sense part of constructing policy narratives. I will present some basic rationales behind the perspective as well as some findings from the study on contentious measures.

This seminar is jointly arranged together with the transport research group.
